Nearly two dozen Indian troops missing after flash flood

Twenty-three Indian troops were reported missing on Wednesday after a flash flood resulting from sudden heavy rainfall in the northeastern state of Sikkim, according to a defense spokesperson.

Footage by ANI in India depicted a swollen Teesta River in Singtam, with individuals navigating flooded footpaths.

The surge of water submerged several vehicles following the release of water from a dam, added the defense spokesperson.

Rescue operations in the area were being impeded by intermittent rain and thundershowers, disclosed an army official to Reuters, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
