Explosion rocks vicinity of Turkish government building in Ankara

Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed on Sunday that two “terrorists” executed a bomb attack near the ministry buildings in Ankara. Yerlikaya reported that one of the assailants perished in the explosion, while the other was “neutralized” by security forces.

Earlier, Turkish media outlets had indicated that an explosion occurred in close proximity to the parliamentary and ministerial complexes.

Footage captured the presence of armed police officers and ambulances on the roads adjacent to the interior ministry.

According to Yerlikaya, two police officers sustained minor injuries during the incident, which transpired at 9:30 a.m. local time (0630 GMT).

Ankara’s chief prosecutor has initiated an inquiry into what is being labeled a terrorist attack.

Authorities have not yet attributed responsibility to any specific militant organization.
