Pakistan’s special envoy affirms visit to Kabul

In a diplomatic mission aimed at bolstering ties and addressing pressing concerns, Asif Ali Durrani, Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan, is scheduled to embark on a visit to Kabul on Wednesday.

In a chat with Amu, Durrani expressed his intention to engage in discussions with key officials from the Taliban. The focal point of these talks will revolve around nurturing and strengthening the bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Taliban, as both parties seek to navigate the complex regional dynamics, he said.

This visit comes at a critical juncture, coinciding with mounting apprehensions voiced by senior Pakistani military officials concerning the activities of various insurgent groups, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, allegedly operating within the borders of Afghanistan.

These concerns have prompted Pakistan to urge the Taliban to take decisive action against these disruptive elements, emphasizing the imperative of maintaining regional stability and security.

Durrani was appointed to the post as Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan back in May. He was Pakistan’s ambassador to Iran. He has also served as deputy head of Pakistan’s mission in Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s former special envoy for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, resigned from his post in March.
