England defeated Uruguay 3-2 on Thursday in a thrilling encounter at the U/20 World Cup.
Chelsea defender, Bashir Humphreys, who spent the latter half of this season on loan at Paderborn in the 2. Bundesliga, headed home from a corner to give the Three Lions the lead twenty minutes in before Tottenham’s Alfie Devine made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time.
Uruguay, however, drew one back through Franco Gonzalez Fernandez five minutes after the break.
England would temporarily regain their two-goal cushion late in the game as Leeds United’s Barko Gyabi drove into the box and sent a strike into the bottom corner before Uruguay grabbed a consolation goal deep into added time courtesy of Matias Abaldo.
The victory puts the 2017 winners atop Group E and secures their passage through to the knockout phase of the competition.
