While no formal announcement has yet been made by either the Indian or Afghan cricket boards, the cricketing fraternity reports that Afghanistan could well tour India in June.
The first to report on the expected tour this week was The Times of India, which cited a source at the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India as saying: “Yes, the Afghanistan cricket team will undertake a short tour to India in June, after the World Test Championship final,” which will be at The Oval in London between India and Australia from June 7-11.
Afghanistan last played against India in 2018 soon after gaining Test status. It was a one-off game that saw the hosts win by an innings and 262 runs.Afghanistan’s cricket team has traditionally been welcomed in India, which has offered assistance and a stage for their development in the cricketing world. This tour will however give the team additional exposure and experience in terms of playing against a top-tier squad.
