ISLAMABAD — Naseer Behroz, a journalist from Afghanistan was detained by Pakistani police in Islamabad on Thursday and faces possible deportation, sources confirmed.
After his arrest, Behroz was taken to Haji Camp, a government facility used to hold migrants ahead of deportation.
Several other Afghan nationals were reportedly detained alongside Behroz during the same police operation.
His arrest comes just two days after Pakistani authorities detained another Afghan media worker and transferred them to the same holding center.
The detentions are the latest in a broader crackdown by Pakistan on undocumented migrants. Since April 2025, authorities have deported more than 200,000 Afghans, citing illegal residency.
The Pakistani government has defended the policy as a matter of law enforcement and national security. However, human rights organizations have raised concerns, warning that many of those deported have no safe option for return under Taliban rule.
Rights advocates have urged Pakistan to uphold international protections for vulnerable populations, particularly journalists, civil society members, and individuals at risk of persecution.
