A young woman was killed and her body set on fire by unidentified gunmen in the northeastern province of Takhar, local sources said on Tuesday, May 27.
The incident took place in the Tarshid area of Warsaj District, according to three independent sources who spoke with Amu TV. The identity of the victim remains unknown.
Medical staff at the provincial hospital in Takhar confirmed that a burned body, believed to be that of a young woman, was brought to the facility early Tuesday. Efforts to identify her have so far been unsuccessful.
Taliban officials in the area have not commented publicly and, according to sources, have also been unable to determine the woman’s identity.
The killing comes amid a reported rise in the incidents of violence against women across the country. Rights groups have warned of growing impunity for gender-based violence since the Taliban returned to power in 2021.
