HERAT – A man in Herat province killed his wife, father, and mother in a brutal attack last night, Taliban confirmed in a statement on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the village of Galah Tut, located in the Adraskan district of the province on Saturday night.
According to a statement from the Taliban’s Herat security command, the assailant first beheaded his wife, then fatally stabbed his father and mother.
The motive behind the killings remains unclear.
Taliban said that investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrator of the crime.
The incident comes amid a growing trend of family killings and violence against women in Afghanistan in recent years. Human rights organizations and civil society activists have expressed increasing concern over the security and social status of women in the country, particularly since the Taliban’s return to power.
