Bear attack kills two in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province

KABUL — A bear attack in eastern Afghanistan’s remote Nuristan province left two men dead, local sources said Tuesday.

The victims, identified as Wali Mohammad and Hassan Khan, were residents of Kunda Dara village in the Doab district, according to sources who spoke with Amu. They had reportedly gone into the mountains to collect wild herbs and small game when they were attacked by a bear on their return.

The incident highlights the persistent dangers faced by rural residents in Afghanistan’s mountainous regions, where wildlife encounters occasionally turn deadly.

Local Taliban officials have not yet commented on the incident or whether any measures are being taken in response.
