TEHRAN — Tehran’s judiciary has warned employers that providing false information regarding the employment of Afghan migrants or obstructing labor and health inspectors will result in penalties, Iranian media reported Sunday.
According to the Mehr News Agency, citing Tehran’s Social Deputy of the Judiciary, employers who block inspectors from entering workplaces or refuse to provide documentation concerning undocumented foreign workers will face legal consequences.
The warning comes as Iranian authorities intensify their crackdown on Afghan migrants, focusing both on deportations and curbing their employment. Officials have said the campaign targets individuals without valid residency documents.
Several provinces in Iran have already implemented policies prohibiting the employment of Afghan migrants without legal status.
Iran hosts one of the largest populations of Afghan refugees, many of whom fled conflict and instability over the past decades. However, amid economic pressures and internal challenges, the country has stepped up efforts to limit their presence and access to work.
