Taliban commerce minister meets with Pakistan’s foreign minister

ISLAMABAD — The Taliban’s acting minister of industry and commerce, Nooruddin Azizi, met with Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, on Thursday to discuss a range of key issues, the Taliban-run embassy in Islamabad said.

Azizi, who is leading a Taliban delegation, traveled from Kabul to Islamabad on Wednesday ahead of the talks.

In a statement posted on X, the embassy said the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations, the “dignified repatriation” of Afghan refugees residing in Pakistan, expanding trade, and facilitating transit processes.

The Taliban delegation emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation between the two countries as a vital step toward improving regional economic conditions, urging greater support and streamlined procedures for exports and imports.

“Both sides stressed the need to resolve existing trade and transit challenges between the two countries,” the embassy said.

The meeting comes as the Taliban and Islamabad attempt to revive ties amid rising tensions over the presence of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and the ongoing deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan.

On Wednesday, a Pakistani delegation led by special envoy Mohammad Sadiq visited Kabul, where officials announced that Ishaq Dar would soon visit Afghanistan to continue diplomatic discussions.
