An explosion near a mosque in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif killed one woman and wounded three others on Monday, according to local sources.
The blast occurred around 8:20 a.m. (Kabul time) near the Seh Dokan mosque, located in the city’s District 2, residents said.
The mosque is affiliated with the Hazara Shiite community and is situated in a predominantly Hazara neighborhood.
Witnesses said the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device planted at the scene.
Local Taliban authorities in Balkh Province have not publicly commented on the incident.
The area around Seh Dokan has been targeted in previous attacks. In 2022, the same mosque was hit by a suicide bombing that killed and wounded dozens. Passenger vehicles in the neighborhood have also been targeted in past bombings.
