PARIS — Abulfazl Warasta, a former member of Afghanistan’s national karate team, won two silver medals at the French Open Karate Championships, organizers confirmed Sunday.
The competition, hosted by the French Karate Federation, served as a selection event for athletes seeking placement on France’s national team.
Varesta competed in both the individual kata and kumite (sparring) categories, advancing to the finals in both disciplines. Despite falling short of gold, he secured runner-up positions in each event, earning widespread praise for his performance.
The Afghan-born athlete, who now resides in France, was previously a standout competitor for Afghanistan’s national squad. His latest achievements mark a significant milestone in his post-migration athletic career.
