American Faye Hall released by Taliban, Khalilzad says

KABUL, Afghanistan — Taliban have released American citizen Faye Hall and handed her over to Qatari officials in Kabul, former U.S. special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad announced on Saturday.

“American citizen Faye Hall, just released by the Taliban, is now in the care of our friends, the Qataris in Kabul, and will soon be on her way home,” Khalilzad said in a post on X. He expressed gratitude to Qatar for its “steadfast partnership.”

Hall is the third U.S. citizen to be released by the Taliban since President Donald Trump returned to office in January.

On March 20, the Taliban released George Glezman, a 66-year-old American who had been in custody in Kabul for two years. His release followed talks between U.S. officials and the Taliban during a visit to Kabul — the first such visit since the group returned to power in 2021.

Following Glezman’s release, an audio message attributed to the Taliban’s reclusive leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, stated that the freedom of additional American citizens would be conditional upon the release of an Afghan detainee held at Guantánamo Bay.
