Former Afghan interpreter fatally stabbed in his Houston office, suspect arrested

HOUSTON — A 34-year-old former Afghan interpreter and father of five was fatally stabbed in his office in Houston, Texas, according to local media reports.

The victim, identified as Abdulrahman Niazi, was a former interpreter for U.S. forces in Afghanistan and had been living in the United States for several years. Friends said he lost both of his legs in an explosion while working with the military in Afghanistan.

Niazi had since become an active member of the Afghan-American community in Houston, assisting newly arrived refugees and immigrants.

“He dedicated himself to helping others rebuild their lives,” a friend of Niazi told reporters.

Local law enforcement has arrested Masiullah Sahel, 37, in connection with the killing. Authorities have not disclosed a motive, and the investigation is ongoing. The incident reportedly occurred inside the office where Niazi worked, though few additional details have been made public.

The Afghan-American community in Houston, one of the largest in the country, has expressed shock and grief over Niazi’s death, with calls for a thorough investigation and support for his surviving family.
