MANCHESTER, England — Afghan taekwondo athlete Farzad Mansouri claimed a gold medal at the British Open, defeating opponents from Togo, the United Kingdom, and Puerto Rico in the under-80 kilogram weight category.

Mansouri’s victory adds to a strong run of form. Just days earlier, he secured a silver medal at the Belgian Open, continuing to build on his reputation as one of Afghanistan’s top international martial artists.
