Afghanistan’s rising star Ghazanfar receives ICC ODI Team of the Year Cap

KABUL, Afghanistan — Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar, one of Afghanistan’s promising young cricketers, has been awarded his cap for being named to the International Cricket Council’s ODI Team of the Year, the country’s cricket board said on Sunday.

The honor recognizes Ghazanfar’s performance in international one-day matches during the past year and marks a significant milestone in his rapid rise as a professional cricketer. The board shared images of the award ceremony on social media, calling it “yet another incredible achievement” for the teenager and celebrating it as a point of national pride.

“A successful team and a proud nation,” the board said in a caption alongside photos of the young spinner receiving his cap.

Ghazanfar, 16, emerged as a standout performer for Afghanistan before a foot injury during the national team’s tour of Zimbabwe sidelined him in late 2023. The injury ruled him out of action for several months and cost him a spot in the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

Despite the setback, the ICC cap reinforces his growing stature in international cricket and underlines Afghanistan’s continued ascent in the sport.
