KABUL — The European Union has announced the arrival of its first humanitarian aid flight of 2025 in Afghanistan, carrying more than 100 metric tons of medical supplies and essential medicines.
The EU’s Humanitarian Air Bridge flight landed at Kabul airport late Monday, the bloc said in a statement posted on X on Tuesday.
The aid, funded by the EU’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), was delivered in coordination with humanitarian partners to address urgent healthcare needs in Afghanistan.
The EU emphasized that it remains committed to providing humanitarian assistance and will continue working with international organizations to help alleviate the suffering of Afghans facing severe economic and health challenges.
Afghanistan is grappling with one of the world’s worst healthcare crises, exacerbated by reduced international aid, inadequate infrastructure, and growing humanitarian needs.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that millions of Afghans require immediate medical assistance, cautioning that without an increase in humanitarian aid, the country’s health crisis could further deteriorate.
