Lashkar-e-Islam founder Muneer Shakir dies from injuries after Peshawar blast

PESHAWAR—Muneer Shakir, the founder of the militant group Lashkar-e-Islam, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital following an explosion near a police checkpoint in Peshawar on Saturday, Pakistani media reported.

According to police officials, the blast occurred near the Ormur police checkpoint, injuring Shakir and three others identified as Khushal, Abid, and Syed Nabi. Shakir sustained severe injuries to his left leg and was transported to Lady Reading Hospital, where he later died.

Muhammad Asim, a spokesperson for the hospital, confirmed in a video statement that Shakir was in critical condition upon arrival but did not survive. His body has been handed over to his family.

Ehtisham Ali, Special Assistant to the Health Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, expressed regret over the attack and assured that all necessary measures would be taken for the treatment of the injured. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the explosion, requested a detailed report from police officials, and ordered immediate action to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Mufti Shakir, who founded Lashkar-e-Islam in 2004, was known for his extremist views and violent clashes with rival militant groups, contributing to instability in the region.
