UN hosts women’s exhibition in northern Afghanistan

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) organized an exhibition in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh province, this week to mark International Women’s Day, showcasing products made by women entrepreneurs.

In a statement on X, UNHCR’s Afghanistan office said several exhibitions featuring handicrafts were also held in Kabul as part of the week’s events.

“Our activities this week continued in celebration of International Women’s Day,” the agency said.

Women artisans supported by UNHCR displayed their work at the event, highlighting their skills despite increasing restrictions.

Afghan women entrepreneurs have repeatedly raised concerns about the challenges they face under Taliban rule, citing shrinking markets for their products due to mounting restrictions on their participation in public life.
