KABUL— The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has reiterated that no child should go to school hungry, marking International School Meals Day with a call for action.
In a statement on X, WFP highlighted the impact of the Taliban’s education restrictions, noting that this is the third consecutive year that girls in Afghansitan have been barred from attending school beyond the elementary level.
The UN has previously warned that global funding for Afghanistan has sharply declined due to the Taliban’s severe restrictions on human rights, particularly on women and girls.
Despite widespread international condemnation, the Taliban have not eased these bans; instead, they have further tightened restrictions on education and women’s rights.
Meanwhile, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that Taliban interference in aid distribution and humanitarian operations has significantly disrupted relief efforts in Afghanistan.
