DUBAI— India clinched the ICC Champions Trophy title with a four-wicket victory over New Zealand in a thrilling final on Sunday, securing their third title in the tournament’s history.
Chasing 252, India reached the target in 49 overs, finishing at 254/6 with six balls to spare. Captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with a steady knock, providing a strong start before falling at a crucial moment. However, key contributions from the middle order, including a composed innings from Virat Kohli and a late surge by Ravindra Jadeja, guided India to victory.
Earlier, New Zealand posted 251/7 in their 50 overs, with Daryl Mitchell anchoring the innings with a well-fought 63 off 101 balls. Glenn Phillips (34) and Michael Bracewell (53*) provided valuable runs, but the Indian bowlers kept the Kiwis in check.
Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/45) were the standout bowlers, while Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with key wickets.
With this win, India secured their first Champions Trophy title since 2013, reaffirming their dominance in white-ball cricket.
