Tajikistan’s ruling party secures dominant victory in parliamentary elections

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan — The ruling People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT) has claimed a decisive victory in the country’s parliamentary elections, securing 12 out of 22 seats allocated through party lists, according to official results.

The Agrarian Party followed with five seats, while the Party of Economic Reforms secured three. The Socialist Party and the Democratic Party of Tajikistan each won one seat, while the Communist Party failed to surpass the required five percent threshold for representation, leaving five of the six registered political parties with seats in parliament.

The Central Commission for Elections and Referendums reported a voter turnout of 85.3 percent in the elections, which were held on March 2. A total of 41 single-member electoral districts were established nationwide, with an additional 36 polling stations set up at Tajikistan’s diplomatic missions in 28 countries to accommodate citizens abroad.

Under Tajikistan’s electoral system, 41 deputies are elected through single-member districts, while 22 are chosen from a national list of political parties.
