Gulab Khushnasib, a well-known folk singer from Zabul, passed away on Sunday, March 2, in Qalat, the provincial capital, after battling illness and financial difficulties.
A close friend of Khushnasib confirmed that the singer had struggled to afford medical treatment.
“For years, he brought joy to people’s celebrations, but when he needed help, he had nothing,” the friend said.
Sources said Khushnasib had been facing severe financial hardship in recent years and was unable to pay for treatment of a long-standing illness. His family is now left with limited resources to sustain themselves.
Since the Taliban returned to power, many artists and musicians have either fled the country or turned to arduous labor for survival. Some have described their struggle to afford even a single meal each day.
