Taliban detain Neday-e Baloch news agency’s editor in Herat

HERAT, Afghanistan — The Neday-e Baloch news agency, which operates in western Afghanistan, announced that it is suspending its broadcasts following the arrest of its editor-in-chief by Taliban in Herat.

In a statement posted on X on Thursday, the news agency said it was halting operations after the detention of Mohammad Asif Faizyar, its editor-in-chief.

The statement did not specify the reasons for Faizyar’s arrest, and the Taliban have yet to comment on the matter.

Faizyar was previously detained by the Taliban in August 2023, when he was held for five days. At the time, he was reportedly arrested for publishing crime reports without Taliban approval.

Neday-e Baloch primarily covers news from Afghanistan’s western provinces through its online platforms.
