ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan on Saturday closed the Torkham border crossing, a key transit point between Pakistan and Afghanistan, halting all movement, according to Taliban officials.
Tayeb Hamad, a spokesman for the Taliban’s police command in Nangarhar, said Pakistani authorities had not provided an explanation for the closure. He urged travelers to avoid the route until further notice.
Torkham is one of the primary border crossings between the two countries, serving both travelers and commercial trade. Its closure could disrupt the movement of goods and people, adding to existing tensions between the neighboring nations.
The shutdown follows previous clashes between Pakistani border forces and Taliban fighters over the construction of security posts and installations along the border. Such disputes have become a recurring source of friction since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021.
Pakistani officials have not commented publicly on the decision to close the crossing.
