Taliban flogged 11 people in Nimroz province as part of their ongoing use of corporal punishment
The Taliban Supreme Court said in a statement on Sunday that four individuals were convicted of “robbery” and “illicit relations,” while seven others were sentenced for “theft.”
The punishments were carried out in a stadium in Nimroz, where the Taliban also sentenced the accused to prison terms ranging from one to six years. The number of lashes administered varied from 20 to 39.
The latest incident follows another case on Sunday in which a person was flogged in Yakawlang district of Bamiyan province on charges of “running away from home.”
According to figures compiled by Amu TV, the Taliban have publicly flogged at least 62 people—including seven women—across multiple provinces in the past three weeks.
While many Afghans have condemned the practice as inhumane, public floggings have continued despite international outcry and warnings from human rights organizations.
