Afghan migrants with legal documents detained in Pakistan, sources say

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A video obtained by Amu TV shows several Afghan migrants in detention, reportedly held by Pakistani police, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Sources say the migrants were arrested on Wednesday in the Barakahu area of Islamabad.

Some of the detained migrants reportedly carried legal documents, including letters from the U.S. and Canadian embassies, which were meant to confirm their eligibility for resettlement or protection.

The arrests add to growing concerns over the Pakistani authorities’ crackdown on Afghan migrants, many of whom fled conflict and instability in Afghanistan and are awaiting resettlement in third countries.
