LAHORE, Pakistan — Cricket fans in Pakistan flooded ticket centers on Wednesday, eager to secure seats for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, which begins later this month.
Long lines formed outside designated ticket outlets in Lahore early in the morning, as fans sought to ensure a spot at one of the most anticipated tournaments on home soil in nearly three decades. While tickets for matches in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi have been available online since last month, this week marked the first opportunity for fans to purchase them in person.
The excitement was palpable, with many expressing their enthusiasm for the chance to watch top international teams compete in Pakistan. However, some faced long waits, as demand surged not only for Champions Trophy tickets but also for the upcoming One-Day International Tri-Series. That tournament, featuring Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand, will take place from Feb. 8-14 in Lahore and Karachi as part of Pakistan’s preparations for the main event.
The eight-team, 50-over Champions Trophy will be the first global cricket tournament held in Pakistan in 28 years. However, India will play all its matches in Dubai, citing ongoing political tensions.
The tournament is set to open on Feb. 19, with Pakistan hosting New Zealand in Karachi. The final is scheduled for March 9 and will take place either in Lahore or Dubai, depending on whether India advances to the title match.
