Iran closes accommodation center for undocumented migrants near Afghanistan border

TEHRAN — Authorities in Taybad, a city near Afghanistan’s border, have sealed off a residential facility for allegedly housing undocumented foreign nationals, according to Hojjat Sediqi, the city’s public prosecutor.

Iranian media reported that the owner of the facility had repeatedly provided temporary accommodation to undocumented Afghan migrants, despite prior warnings from authorities.

Sediqi said the property was shut down by court order, and the owner has been arrested with a case filed against him.

“Those who provide lodging or dormitories to undocumented foreign nationals will be prosecuted under the law,” he warned.

He also stated that if undocumented migrants commit a crime while staying at such facilities, property owners could be held legally responsible as accomplices.

Crackdown on Unauthorized Rentals and Transportation
Sediqi emphasized that, under Iranian law, renting, selling, or transferring property to undocumented migrants in Taybad is strictly prohibited.

“Transporting undocumented foreign nationals in private vehicles to different cities is also illegal,” he added.

Iran has intensified its crackdown on undocumented Afghan migrants in recent months. Earlier, Iran’s minister of interior said that 50 percent of deported Afghan migrants eventually return to the country.
