Funding cuts halt AUAF operations in Doha: Sources

The American University of Afghanistan’s (AUAF) Doha campus has ceased operations following a suspension of funding, two sources familiar with the matter confirmed on Tuesday.

According to sources, all employees of the university have been issued suspension of work orders, and classes have been paused indefinitely.

Classes, which were in session until recently, have now been suspended until further notice, sources said.

Affected students expressed frustration and uncertainty over their academic futures.

This comes after US President Doland Trump in an executive order stopped his country’s foreign aid to all countries, including Afghanistan, for which it was the biggest donor after the fall of the previous government in August 2021.

The AUAF was established in Kabul in 2006. It resumed its operations from Doha after the fall of the previous government.
