KABUL, Afghanistan — Taliban have arrested Nik Mohammad Hakimi, a former municipal employee in Taluqan, the center of Takhar Province, for the second time, sources told Amu on Monday.
Hakimi is the brother of Noor Mohammad Hakimi, who served as Takhar’s police chief under the previous government. According to the sources, Hakimi’s family has no information about his current condition, and the Taliban have claimed they are unaware of his whereabouts.
Hakimi was previously detained by the Taliban for approximately two months on charges of collaborating with the Resistance Front, the sources said. He was released just three weeks ago before being re-arrested.
Since the Taliban seized power in August 2021, numerous reports have emerged of the arrests, torture, and even killings of former government employees and military personnel by Taliban forces. The situation has drawn criticism from human rights organizations, which have called for accountability and the protection of former officials and security forces under international norms.
