KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghanistan’s national futsal player Omid Qanbari has officially signed with Iraq’s Al-Jaish club, marking a new chapter in his career.
Officials from Afghanistan’s Futsal Committee said Qanbari impressed on the global stage during the 2024 Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan, drawing international attention to his performance.
According to the committee, Qanbari has joined Al-Jaish for one season in Iraq’s Premier Futsal League.
The 2024 Futsal World Cup, held from September 14 to October 6 at the Humo Arena in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, featured teams from around the globe competing in six groups. Brazil ultimately claimed the championship, defeating Argentina in the final.
Qanbari, a standout player for Afghanistan during the tournament, earned recognition for his exceptional skills and contributions to the national team. His move to Al-Jaish highlights the growing presence of Afghan athletes in international futsal leagues.
