Iran executes Afghan national alongside two others

The Iran Human Rights Organization has reported that Iran executed three individuals, including one Afghan national, on Thursday at Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

According to the organization, the individuals were sentenced to death on charges of “premeditated murder.” However, the report did not provide details about the identity of the Afghan citizen.

Iran has faced criticism for its use of the death penalty, particularly in cases involving Afghan nationals. Last year, the country executed more than 70 Afghan citizens on various charges, including murder and drug-related offenses.

Taliban Delegation Discusses Death Penalty with Iran

Last week, a Taliban delegation, led by the deputy head of the Supreme Court, visited Iran to discuss alternatives to the death penalty for Afghan nationals. The delegation reportedly sought measures to address the rising number of executions of Afghans in Iran.
