Sayed Akbar Arabi, the police commander of Pishva city in Tehran, announced that four Afghan nationals have been arrested on charges of involvement in a murder.
According to the Iranian news outlet Tabnak, which quoted Arabi on Saturday, the arrests were made less than 24 hours after an unidentified body was discovered in the deserts of Pishva.
“Through the tireless efforts of the county’s criminal investigation police, four Afghan nationals involved in the murder of an unidentified individual in the deserts of Pishva were identified and arrested within 24 hours,” Arabi said.
The Iranian official did not provide further details regarding the motive behind the murder or the identities of those involved.
Concerns Over Fair Judicial Process
The incident comes amid longstanding complaints by Afghan citizens in Iran about a lack of access to fair judicial proceedings. In 2024, Iran executed over 70 Afghan nationals on various charges, including murder and drug-related offenses. Human rights groups have criticized the treatment of Afghan migrants and refugees in Iran, pointing to systemic discrimination and limited legal protections.
