The ISIS-K has claimed responsibility for an attack on a Chinese citizen in Takhar Province, Afghanistan, according to a statement by the group.

Local sources had earlier reported to Amu that a Chinese national was killed in a shooting carried out by an unidentified gunman in northern Takhar.

According to these sources, the Chinese citizen, accompanied by a translator and another individual, was attacked on Tuesday afternoon, January 21.

Sources also indicated that the Taliban have detained the translator of the Chinese national in connection with the incident.

However, Taliban officials have not yet made an official statement regarding the attack.

Following the shooting, Taliban security forces arrived at the scene and initiated a search operation to locate the assailant, sources said.

Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, ISIS-K has carried out several major attacks in Afghan cities, frequently targeting civilians, including members of the country’s Shia community.

In June last year, ISIS militants killed three Spanish nationals and three Afghan citizens in an attack. Four other foreign nationals were also injured in that incident.
