KABUL, Afghanistan — The Salang Pass, a critical highway connecting northern Afghanistan to Kabul, has been reopened to small vehicles, the Taliban-led Ministry of Public Works announced.

The pass was closed on Friday night due to heavy snowfall and poor visibility. Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that a single lane has been cleared, allowing vehicles stranded since the closure to resume travel.

Haqshenas warned that the pass might be closed again if severe storms or high winds return.

The Salang Pass is a vital transportation route, linking Kabul with over nine northern and northeastern provinces. It also serves as a key corridor for commercial trucks, although larger vehicles remain restricted for now.
