Taliban detain five officials from educational institute in Daikundi, sources say

DAIKUNDI, Afghanistan — Taliban have detained five officials from the “New Horizon Human Development Institute,” an educational organization operating in the central province of Daikundi, local sources told Amu on Tuesday.

According to the sources, the individuals, reportedly taken into custody by Taliban intelligence, include Mohsen Saadat, the provincial director; Sayed Habib Roshan, the district head for Khedir; Jawad Hamta, the district head for Ashtarlay; Asadullah Halimi, the district head for Sangtakht and Bandar; and Lal Mohammad Mohammadi, the coordinator in Nili.

The sources said that Saadat and Mohammadi were arrested on Tuesday, while the other three were detained earlier on Saturday.

Taliban also raided the organization’s main office in Nili, seizing several computers and conducting a search of the premises, sources added.

The New Horizon Human Development Institute operates nine educational centers across seven districts in Daikundi, offering English and computer literacy courses. It remains unclear why the Taliban arrested the officials or targeted the organization.

The detentions have raised concerns among locals about the fate of the individuals, as the Taliban have yet to comment on the arrests or provide any explanation for their actions.

Taliban have imposed increasing restrictions on educational institutions, particularly those offering programs that do not align with their strict interpretation of Islamic principles.
