Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, Amna Baloch, met with Roza Otunbayeva, the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), to discuss developments in Afghanistan and global efforts to address the country’s humanitarian crisis, according to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of a two-day conference on girls’ education held in Islamabad.
“During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on developments in Afghanistan and the international community’s efforts to address the country’s humanitarian challenges,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier, Otunbayeva also met with Pakistan’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Sadiq Khan, to discuss the situation in Afghanistan, including the challenges facing its population under Taliban rule.
The summit on girls’ education, hosted by Islamabad, called for the protection of girls’ rights to education in Afghanistan, where the Taliban have imposed severe restrictions on female education.
Although the Taliban were invited to participate in the conference, they declined to attend.
