Afghanistan: Severe cold claims two lives in Faryab Province

Two men died from extreme cold on Saturday night in the Tirband Turkistan area of the northern province of Faryab, according to Taliban officials.

Abdullah Moradi, a spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Faryab, stated that the victims were residents of Arab Aqsa village in Pashtun Kot district. They had traveled to Kohistan district for work to support their families and were returning home when they succumbed to the freezing temperatures.

One of the victims, identified as Khudadad, has been recovered, but the second man remains unidentified, with his body still buried under the snow. Local authorities are continuing efforts to retrieve the body.

Local sources reported that four livestock accompanying the men also perished in the severe cold.

The Taliban’s police command stated that the incident is under investigation, and steps are being taken to assist the affected families.

This comes as Afghanistan braces for a harsh winter, with many families lacking basic heating and survival supplies.
