Heavy snowfall on Friday night in the central province of Parwan severely disrupted traffic along the Parwan-Panjshir highway, a critical route that also connects Parwan to northern provinces.
Local sources reported that numerous vehicles were stranded, significantly reducing traffic flow and leaving travelers struggling to navigate the icy conditions.
“The vehicles you see are stuck in the snow. If you go toward the crossroads, you will see hundreds of others stranded,” a Parwan resident said. “We started with three vehicles from Kapisa, and all three got stuck. We had to walk a long distance on foot.”
Taliban authorities, including municipal workers, have mobilized efforts to clear the roads, but freezing temperatures and the sheer volume of snow continue to pose significant challenges. According to local officials, dozens of workers have been deployed to remove snow and restore access to the highway.
Despite these efforts, sources say that lingering snow and icy conditions remain a major obstacle, making travel difficult for residents and essential goods transporters.
The Parwan-Panjshir and Parwan-North highways serve as lifelines for Afghanistan, connecting Kabul with northern and northeastern provinces. These routes are essential for trade and the movement of goods, playing a key role in the country’s economy.
