The Taliban-run Meteorology Department on Tuesday issued a warning of heavy snowfall and rainfall across 28 provinces of the country, including Kabul, forecasting potential flash floods in warmer regions.

According to the statement, provinces expected to be affected include Kabul, Herat, Farah, Nimroz, Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, Jawzjan, Faryab, Badghis, Ghor, Daikundi, Samangan, Uruzgan, Sar-e Pol, Bamiyan, Paktia, Paktika, Ghazni, Khost, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Badakhshan, Panjshir, Parwan, Baghlan, Kunduz, and Balkh.

The department predicts these weather events will occur on Tuesday, December 31, and Wednesday, January 1.

Rainfall is expected to range between 15 and 40 millimeters, while snowfall could accumulate between 10 and 50 centimeters in various regions.

The statement highlights the possibility of flooding in warmer provinces, where heavy rain is likely to cause flash floods. Additionally, significant snowfall is expected in western, eastern, central, and southeastern provinces over the coming days.

Afghanistan, identified by the United Nations as the sixth-most vulnerable country to climate change, faces severe weather-related challenges annually. Heavy rain and flooding frequently result in significant casualties and property damage, particularly in remote areas.
