GAZA CITY — Five journalists were killed early Thursday when an Israeli airstrike targeted their vehicle near Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat, a central Gaza refugee camp, according to Gaza’s health authorities.
Local media reported that the vehicle was marked as a press van and was being used by journalists covering the situation at the hospital and in the Nuseirat camp. The journalists were affiliated with the Al-Quds Al-Youm television channel, a network based in Gaza.
The Israeli military has not commented on the incident.
In a separate airstrike, five people were killed and 20 others injured when a house was struck in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood, health authorities said. Rescue workers warned that the death toll could rise as many victims were believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
The strikes come amid ongoing hostilities in Gaza, which has been a focal point of escalating violence in the region. Medics on the ground continue to grapple with the mounting casualties as tensions show no signs of easing.
The targeting of media personnel has drawn criticism in past conflicts, with international organizations urging all parties to respect the safety of journalists working in war zones.
