PANJGUR, Pakistan — Abdul Ghaffar Baloch, a veteran leader of Pakistan’s National Party, was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen on Friday evening in the Chattikan area of Panjgur district, local authorities said.
The attack occurred as Mr. Baloch, who was serving as deputy chairman of the Gwarjak sub-division of the National Party, was leaving a mosque following evening prayers.
According to a senior police officer in Panjgur, Mr. Baloch was struck by multiple bullets and died at the scene. “The assailants, who were on motorcycles, fled immediately after the shooting,” the officer told local media.
Police transported Mr. Baloch’s body to a regional hospital for forensic examination before releasing it to his family.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the killing, which they have described as a targeted assassination. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
The killing has raised concerns about the ongoing violence in the region, where political leaders and activists are often targeted amid broader security challenges.
