KABUL, Afghanistan — In the latest One Day International (ODI) rankings by the International Cricket Council (ICC), three Afghan players have been named among the world’s top 10 all-rounders, marking a milestone for Afghan cricket.
Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi leads the rankings, followed by Rashid Khan in third place. Azmatullah Omarzai, a seam-bowling all-rounder, holds the ninth spot.
Nabi, who is expected to retire after the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, recently delivered a standout performance in Afghanistan’s ODI series against Bangladesh, held at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates. His steady play over the years has earned him a consistent place at the top of ICC rankings.
Rashid Khan, who recently returned to form following surgery that kept him out of play for several months, also secured his position with strong performances across various formats.
Omarzai, a newer face in Afghanistan’s lineup, has emerged as a force in ODI cricket this year. He scored a century against South Africa and played a remarkable unbeaten innings of 77 runs in the final match against Bangladesh, along with taking four wickets in an earlier game of that series.
While Nabi and Khan have long held top-ranking positions in various ICC formats, Omarzai’s performances highlight the growing depth and talent in Afghanistan’s cricket roster.
