ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, is set to visit Pakistan on Thursday to discuss developments in Afghanistan, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Zahra Baloch, announced at a press briefing.
During his visit, Kabulov is expected to meet with Amina Baloch, Pakistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, and hold extensive talks with Ahmad Naseem Waraich, Pakistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Afghanistan and West Asia.
According to Baloch, the discussions will focus on recent developments in Afghanistan and explore the role neighboring countries can play in promoting peace and stability in the region.
The visit comes amid ongoing tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Taliban to take action against the presence of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters within Afghanistan. While the Taliban denies harboring TTP members, a United Nations report published in July estimated that roughly 6,000 TTP fighters are based in Afghanistan.
