Iran’s non-oil exports to Afghanistan have surged by 31 percent in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year, reaching over $1.07 billion, according to Iran’s commercial attaché in Afghanistan.
This marks a $254 million increase compared with the same period last year.
According to figures reported by the ILNA news agency, nearly 560,000 tons of Iranian goods, including iron, steel, cement, eggs, and potatoes, have been exported to Afghanistan in recent months.
Hossein Rostaei, head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization, noted in an interview on Sunday that the total volume of non-oil exports to Afghanistan reached 2.5 million tons, an increase of 28 percent from last year. He added that in addition to the value, the weight of exported goods has increased by 559,000 tons.
Iran’s imports from Afghanistan have also risen sharply, reaching over $33 million — a 192 percent increase from last year. The main imports from Afghanistan include barley, corn, peanuts, and chilies, according to Rostaei.
