Afghanistan’s first high-ranking boxing coach dies at 64

Abdul Hai Azizpur, Afghanistan’s most acclaimed boxing coach, died on Wednesday in Kabul at the age of 64.

The Afghanistan Boxing Federation reported that Azizpur suffered a heart attack during a boxing competition.

According to a statement from the federation, the incident occurred while he was overseeing matches.

Azizpur was a celebrated figure in Afghan boxing, having earned multiple medals — gold, silver, and bronze — in national and international competitions.

He also served as the technical deputy of the Afghanistan Boxing Federation, contributing significantly to the sport’s development in the country.
