UNITED NATIONS — Rosemary DiCarlo, the U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, met with Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Qatar’s permanent representative to the United Nations, to discuss recent developments in Afghanistan following the third Doha meeting held in June.
According to a statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conversation centered on leveraging positive momentum from the recent summit and applying its outcomes in preparation for a fourth round of talks.
The meeting took place at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
The two officials also explored ways to strengthen cooperation between Qatar and the U.N. on political matters, and reviewed recent developments in the Middle East.
The third Doha summit, however, faced significant criticism due to the absence of Afghan women and discussions on women’s rights. Civil society representatives were also notably excluded from the agenda, which was largely focused on Afghanistan’s drug trafficking issues and economic crisis.
