KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghanistan’s national youth cricket team won its first-ever ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Asia Cup title, defeating Sri Lanka’s A team by seven wickets in the final match, a triumph that has sparked celebrations across the country.
Citizens gathered in cities and towns, sharing videos and images of their celebrations in support of the young team’s accomplishment.
The victory has drawn praise from prominent Afghan figures as well. Former President Hamid Karzai congratulated the team, saying, “Our athletes bring pride and joy to Afghanistan in every competition.”
Abdullah Abdullah, the former chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, extended his congratulations on Facebook to both the players and the Afghan people.
Former national team captain Mohammad Nabi called the championship “an incredible achievement” and wished the players continued success.
Several players delivered standout performances throughout the tournament, with Sediqullah Atal scoring 368 runs and earning the title of Player of the Tournament. Allah-Gul Ghazanfar was named Player of the Final for his exceptional contributions in the decisive match.
The championship has fueled excitement within Afghanistan’s cricket community and strengthened the nation’s enduring passion for the sport.
